Lennie was named after her maternal grandmother, Malinda (Smith) Powell. As remembered by a grandson who lived with them during their old age, she lost her sight later in life but was very able bodied until her death. She was a faithful Christian woman who prayed for each of her children, grandchildren, and other relatives by name every night while kneeling next to her bed.

She was the 2nd wife of Felix Kinn Deering, whom she married on 21 Feb 1904, in Haralson County, GA.

Her sister, Rose "Rosie" E. Beauchamp, married her stepson, Arthur Theodore Deering, Sr., the only known child of Felix Deering and his first wife, Cynthia Parris, who died in about 1902.

Due to the isolated location of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, where her husband, Felix, is buried, Lennie chose to be buried where many of their children are buried: Pine Grove Baptist Church, just outside of Tallapoosa.

In the plot shown here, she is buried to the far left. Her son, Felix "Ken" (Jr.) is buried to her right (in the middle grave of the plot of three graves here), and another son, Charlie, is buried to the far right.

Her death certificate, also shown here, confirms that she was buried at Pine Grove (on 28 Sep 1969). Two of her grandsons, who were present at the funeral, confirmed the exact plot and location of her grave.

It was a great honor to finally mark both her grave and the grave of Ken on 13 May 2019, as shown by the new tombstone photo provided here.
