James is the oldest son of John Mary Lockwood & Mary Wood. James had 4 brothers, ; Joseph, Simeon, David, John & Charles and two sisters, Mary & Elizabeth.
All of his family, with the exception of Simeon, immigrated to the US during the early 1850's & settled in Trenton, NJ & Fairfield, Connecticut.
Unlike his father & brothers, who were wire drawers, James worked as a cordwainer. He married Betty Hargreaves on 17 Nov 1839. He & Betty had two daughters, Ann & Ellen & a son James during their marriage. He died in September 1890 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.
