Solon Twaddell, farmer and stock raiser was a native of Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the son of Eben and Mary Twaddell. His parents died when he was 4 years old. He was raised by William Sanford. In 1861 he went to live with a Mr. Washburn. He went to California in 1865, spending 4 years there, devoting his time to the farming and lumber business. He came to Nodaway County in 1881, and on Aug 24, he married Mary Priscilla Mast, a native of Nodaway County.
They were the parents of five children: Mary, Harvey, Lloyd, Roy and Carrie.
