Francis X Burns was born in Wilmington DE, to Michael J and Margaret (Desmond) Burns. Upon graduating from Salesianum High School, he studied at St Charles College in Catonsville MD, and completed his theological studies at St Mary's Seminary in Baltimore MD. Following his ordination into the priesthood in 1948, he served as chaplain to the State Institutions and the Catholic Youth Organization.

He served as a Catholic priest, in the Diocese of Wilmington, where he was pastor of St Elizabeth Church and principal of the high school. Here he led the school in gaining accreditation from the Middle States Association and was actively involved in the school's sports programs. He also served as pastor of Holy Cross Church in Dover DE.

After withdrawing from active ministry, Frank was employed by the Pennsylvania State Education Association. He spent his retirement officiating local swim meets and track and field events and also served as a disaster aid representative with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He enjoyed every day if his life, especially if it included a round of golf, and was a proud member if the Forecaller golf group.

Francis X Burns died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 8, 2005. He was 81.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Joanne; his son, Kevin; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Mark Kiskorna; his triplet grandsons, Jack, Brendan and Patrick Kiskorna; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul. A viewing was held on July 12th at the Logan Funeral Home in Exton PA. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, July 13th, at St Elizabeth's Church, Wilmington DE. Interment followed in St Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville DE.
