Harold C. Hixenbaugh, 87, of Taylorville, IL died at 3:20 am Thursday, January 18, 2001 at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 22, 2001 at Davis Memorial Christian Church, Taylorville, IL with Rev. Randy Myers officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Sunday January 21 at Connolly-McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville and 1 hour prior to service in the church on Monday. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Davis Memorial Christian Church.
Mr. Hixenbaugh was born March 12, 1913 in Centerville, IA, the son of Henry C. and Jesse Steele Hixenbaugh. He married Nedra C. Howe on May 5, 1940 in Oneida, IL. She preceded in death December 29, 1993. Mr. Hixenbaugh retired in 1984 as Sports Editor of the Breeze Courier in Taylorville. Prior to that he had been employed for 10 years at Sangamon Company, Tayloville. Mr. Hixenbaugh had been a Trumpet Player with the Byron Dunbar Orchestra, Member, Elder and choir director at Davis Memorial Christian Church, Mound Lodge #122, A.F.&A.M., Springfield Consistory and Ansar Shrine. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was elected to the Taylorville High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
Surviving are two sons: David Hixenbaugh and wife Lana of Taylorville and Harold Dean Hixenbaugh and wife Gail of Colorado Springs, CO. Three Grandchildren: Jeffrey Allan Hixenbaugh, Stephen S. Hixenbaugh and Matthew D. Hixenbaugh. 1 Great Grandson Hunter Hixenbaugh. 1 Brother, Gale Hixenbaugh or Dubuque, IA and 2 sisters Ruth Clark and Clydene Hindley both of Centerville, IA.
