Pearl was baptized in the Methodist Church and moved with her family to the Elk Point area where she was raised and attended school in Richland and Elk Point. May 8, 1932 she married Emery Powell. Pearl was confirmed at Brule Creek Church July 16, 1933. Together they farmed several places and raised their three sons. They moved into Alcester in 1945. They became members at Nathanael Lutheran Church where Pearl was active with the quilters group and WELCA. She worked for 10 years at Odis in Hawarden, Iowa. Pearl continued to live in Alcester following Emery's death in 1989 and was a member of the Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed camping and fishing with Emery and spent some warm winters in Texas. Pearl was a great baker and always had something freshly made.
Survivors include her three sons, Gerald (Susan) Powell and Gordon (Elaine) Powell all of Sioux Falls and Allen Powell of Alcester; 10 grandchildren, one step grandson, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Talbott of Abilene, TX; sister, Gladys Sullivan of Elk Point and several nieces and nephews and friend, Marlys Powell of Beresford.
Her husband, parents, four brothers, three sisters, grandson, great-grandson and great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be 4-8PM Monday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 5-7PM.
