Mrs. Hubert Thomson, 79, of Canyon died Monday, February 21, after a lengthy period of ill health.
She was the wife of Dr. Hubert Thomson, pastor of First Untied Methodist Church, Wellington from 1942 to 1945, and the grandmother of the Rev. Tom Thomson, the present pastor. She was also mother of another Methodist clergyman, Dr. Carlton Thomson of Lubbock, and grandmother of still another pastor, the Rev. Stan Cosby of Amarillo.
The former Carmen Mathis, she grew up in Cottle County and lived at Clarendon while her husband attended college preparing for the ministry.
At each place where Dr. Thomson was pastor, she worked with him in serving the church and in the women's work. These included churches at Tolbert, 10th Avenue and San Jacinto United Methodist Churches, Amarillo; First Methodist churches at Canyon, Borger, and Wellington, at Abilene while he was pastor of First Methodist and superintendent of the Abilene District.
For many yeas, until her health failed, she taught a Sunday School class of three-year-olds.
Survivors are her husband Dr. Thomson; three sons, Glenn Thomson and Dr. Carlton Thomson of Lubbock and James Thomson of Amarillo; two daughters, Mrs. Earlene Gilmore of Amarillo and Mrs. Betty Cosby of Canyon; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
