John & family, with the exception of James & Simeon, immigrated to Trenton, NJ in 1852. He & all of his sons were employed as wire drawers. Over the years, the family on both sides of the Atlantic stayed in contact. He died on May 25, 1868, in Trenton, New Jersey, having lived a long life of 75 years. He is buried along side his wife Mary Mellor Lockwood, son Joseph & daughter in law Mary Wood Lockwood. None of the graves are marked.
While currently unverified, an oral history, over two hundred years old, contends that John Lockwood is the illegitimate son of Thomas Lister and Mary Lockwood. The history goes on to contend that the Lister family sponsored the relocation of John Lockwood's family to the US in 1852. No verifiable sources have been found to substantiate this claim. Regardless, the Lockwood descendants remaining in England vigorously support this claim.
