Lloyd Carl Swartz, Sr. 91 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at Aurora Health and Rehab, Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 9-11 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Bro. James Black officiating. Interment will be in Memorial
Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Swartz was born July 31, 1922 in Ethelsville, AL to the late Hiram Albert and Gertrude Land Swartz. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and earned several commendations: ATO Medal, EAMETO Medal, Good Conduct Medal, District Unit Badge, Victory Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry, Army Occupation Medal, American Campaign Medal, Efficiency Honor Fidelity Medal and WWII Medal. Mr. Swartz was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and the RSVP Band. He was a self-employed carpenter and retired in 1985. Mr. Swartz liked to play the harmonica, was an avid gardener and he also enjoyed cooking biscuits, deer steaks and gravy. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife-Vivian Jones Swartz and brothers-Charles Swartz, Albert Swartz and William "Bill" Swartz.

Mr. Swartz is survived by his son-Lloyd Carl (Kay) Swartz, Jr., Columbus, MS; daughter-Elaine (Quavis) Romedy, Columbus, MS; grandchildren-Wendi (Ellis) Lachney, Sara (Chad) Turner, Kim Swartz and Andy Swartz; great grandchildren-Brynann Turner, Jaxon Turner, McKensi Lachney; sister-Juanita Denton and brother-Selvin (Mary) Swartz.

Pallbearers will be Mike Upton, Eddie Smith, Doug Colvin, Jay McCrary, Larry Richardson, Dusty Jones, Jimmy Hildreth and Bobby Beard. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Youngblood, David Ashmore, W.A. Nichols and St. Stephens United Methodist Church Men's Club.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephens United Methodist Church Children's Ministry, 800 Tuscaloosa Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
