John E. Konopacky, 78, of Lakewood, WI, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. He was born on May 19, 1935, in Stevens Point to Peter and Margaret (Karner) Konopacky.
John graduated from P.J. Jacobs HS in Stevens Point; he then went on to further his education at UW Stevens Point before enlisting in the Air Force in 1955. He served his country until 1957 and returned home to continue his education. John married Barbara Conlon on November 22, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point. He graduated from UWSP in 1961 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. In 1964 they moved to Green Bay where he taught computers at Northeast WI Technical College. In 1969 he started working for C.E.S.A. #9 and remained there until his retirement in 1988. John and Barbara purchased property in Lakewood in 1974 and built a log home in 1978; it eventually became their home. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
John is survived by Barbara, his wife of 55 years, of Lakewood; two daughters, Patricia (Richard) Meister of Janesville and Elizabeth (Raymond) Del Fava of Pleasant Prairie; two sons, Daniel (Marie) of Lake Tomahawk and David (Kelly Kraetsch) of Land O'Lakes. He is further survived by daughter-in-law Ann Konopacky of Arbor Vitae; two brothers, Jerome of Stevens Point and James (Joyce) of Crystal River, FL., and eight grandchildren: Anna, John, Thomas, Emily, Grace, Peter, Kathryn, and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Timothy, son Thomas James, sister Audrey, and brothers Karl, David, Peter, and Robert.
Funeral Mass for John will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church in Lakewood, WI. Fr. Benjamin Sember will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Weber-Hill Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
