Dean E. Aunkst, 74, a resident of Montgomery, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 3, 2014, at his residence. Born in Watsontown, Northumberland County, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Bessie (Wertz) Aunkst.

Dean was the husband of Lois D. (Guyer) Aunkst, with whom he would have celebrated a 46th wedding anniversary on March 9, 2014.

He was retired from Securitas Holdings where he was employed as a security guard. Dean had previously been employed by the former Montgomery Mills and Lending Textiles.

He attended the Delaware Run Wesleyan Church at Watsontown. Dean enjoyed baseball and was a diehard Yankees fan. He also enjoyed country music and western movies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen W. and Brenda Aunkst, of Montgomery; Dwayne E. and Tracy Aunkst, of Watsontown; four grandchildren, Zachery Aunkst, Garrick Beiber, Trisha Williams, Emmie Aunkst; one great-granddaughter, Madison Beiber; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Aunkst, of Montgomery, Leonard and Emma Aunkst, of Watsontown, Wayne Aunkst, of Muncy; and one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Paul Pentz, of Montgomery. Dean was preceded in death by two brothers, William Aunkst and James Aunkst and by three sisters, Helen Robbins, Maxine Hitesman and Shirley Walker.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, 5570 Musser Lane, Watsontown, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, with Reverend Michael C. Reece, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
