THAYER, KS. - Gerhardt Leck, 83, of Thayer, KS, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neodesha, Kansas.

He was born June 24, 1922, in Geary, Oklahoma, to Dietrich and Anna (Glockner) Leck. He grew up in Geary and attended Canyon View Country School. He worked on the family farm until he entered the military service.

He joined the US Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Irma Seller on March 3, 1949, in Elk City, Kansas. She survives of the home.

He moved from Oklahoma to the family farm south of Thayer in 1946. He farmed and was a truck driver most of his adult life. He worked for Scherilman Trucking in Cherryvale and Industrial Crating in Thayer and St. Paul.

He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1654 in Chanute, KS. He served as president of the Thayer school board, the rural water district No. 5 board, and the FHA board.

Survivors include one son, Dietrich Leck of rural Thayer, KS; three daughters, Linda Wright of Derby, KS, Patricia Head and Debra Callarman, both of rural Thayer, KS; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Leck and Bill Leck, both of Geary, OK; and five sisters, Margaret Stoner of McCloud, CA, Augusta Armstrong of Liberty, MO, Pearl Cravens of Blackwell, OK, Freida Boevers of El Reno, OK, and Mary Burkhead of Calumet, OK.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services will be at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Richards officiating. Burial, with military honors conducted by the VFW Post # 1654 of Chanute, in the South Center Cemetery south of Thayer, Kansas.
