Mary E. Phebus was born June 1, 1856, in Carroll county, near Delphi, and passed out of this life at her home northeast of Wolcott Sunday, October 3, aged 70 years, 4 months and 3 days. Mrs. Phebus was the daughter of William and Rebecca McDonald, and was united in marriage to John T. Phebus, October 21, 1877. To this union were born thirteen childred, five of whom preceded her in death. Beside the aged husband, the following are left to mourn the passing of one who was a Chrsitian, a home-maker and a home-lover. The children are Mrs. Iva Griest and Mrs. Jennie Bates of Lafayette; Mrs. Minnie Scipio of Chalmers; Mrs. Lillian Frey of Wolcott; Mr. George Phebus of Monon; Mr. William phebus of Chicago; Mr. Gilbert Phebus of Monticello and Mr. Fred Phebus of Logansport. The brothers and sisters are Miss Sarah McDonald, Miss Anna McDonald, Mrs. Martha Rogers, Mr. John McDonald, Mr. George McDonald,, and Mr. Brazier McDonald, all of Monon. There are 22 grandchildred, and six great-grand children, besides a host of friends. Mrs. Phebus has long been a suffer from the affliction that took her away, but through it all maintaining a wonderful faith in God, and displaying at all times a marked degree if Christian patience. Her love for those about her was best demonstrated in the many kindly deeds she did for those who came within the scope of her attention and service. For a number of years she was a faithful member of Palestine Christian church, at which place the funeral services were held in the presence of a large group of relatives, friends and neighbors. Services were conducted by Rev. Patton, pastor of Wolcott Christian church, assisted by Rev. Whitesell, pastor of Wolcott Baptist church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the body was laid to rest in Palestine cemetery
