Armistice served in the armed forces during World War II, after which worked for Amtrak Railroad for 31 years and retired to do what he does best, preach.
He continued his higher education at Howard University School of Theology and received his Masters of Religion of Education and later his Doctorate of Humane Letters. He was ordained January 25, 1963, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Brighton, Alabama.
A later move to Washington DC was to serve over 20 years as the Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church there. As Pastor of Pleasant Grove, he was dedicated, hardworking, and a man of uncompromising determination.
He was a resident of Nashville, Tennessee when he passed away on February 24, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter Marvetta (Calvert) Burton; brother James Calvert; and sisters Ella Mae Calvert and Mildred (Calvert) Chaney.
Survivors include a granddaughter; brother; sister; and a host of family and friends.
Burial was in Woodlawn's Cross Mausoleum.

"So, when I thought it was all said and done, I forgot about the last two items from my Papa's funeral. Yesterday, Woodlawn delivered a necklace with my grandfather's fingerprint and a remembrance book with all of the photo's used in the funeral. Needless to say that totally pulled at my heart strings."
