A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2005 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 473 Lincoln Ave., Los Altos, CA, for Francis John Barbara, 88, of Los Altos Hills.
Francis passed away November 25, 2005 in Chico, CA. He was born in Detroit, MI, September 28, 1917 to Francis Barbara of Malta and Jennie Vella of Algeria.
He attended Bay View Elementary and High School of Commerce in San Francisco.
His military service was in the 802 Army/Marine Ship Repair Co. From May 1944-Jan 1946. He received the good conduct, WWII Victory, Asiatic/Pacific Campaign, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star.
Francis married Lena Marie Sacco September 29, 1940.
He was employed as supervisor for Dean Works Co., and Balliet Bros. Construction. Organizations include the United Assn. of Journeyman and Apprentice of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industries - Local 38, as well as the Daly City Volunteer Fire Dept., and the 49er's Square Dance Club.
Francis enjoyed camping and fishing. He was an avid gardener and grew the best tomatoes in town.
Preceded in death by son, Robert Anthony Barbara; two sisters, Ann Brown and Catherine Wertenberg.
Survivors include his wife Lena M. Barbara of Los Altos Hills, CA; son, David R. Barbara and wife, Sharon, of Forest Ranch, CA; daughter-in-law, Anita Barbara of San Mateo; granddaughters, Cassandra Fuentes and Nicole M. Barbara, both of San Mateo; granddaughter, Sabrina L. Barbara of Chico, CA; and five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles S. Barbara of Medford, OR; and grandson, David R. Barbara II of Chico CA.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5-9 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Spangler Mortuary, 399 S. San Antonio Rd. Los Altos, CA.
Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos CA. Brusie Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
