"Dr. Jack" as he was called by all those who knew & loved him, lived a life dedicated to the practice of veterinary medicine. He was a graduate of McComb High School, Southeastern Louisiana University & Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in the class of 1955. He practiced veterinary medicine in his own clinic, Magnolia Veterinary Clinic for 58 years. After selling his practice to Tamor Veterinary Service, he continued to practice veterinary medicine there until ill health forced his retirement in 2012. He often made the statement, "I am the luckiest man in the world. I got to do exactly what I loved to do and make a living doing it."

Dr. Jack Nunnery was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 for outstanding contribution to the veterinary profession in the field of veterinary practice. He was inducted into the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association Hall of Fame in 2001. Jack was a long-time member of Magnolia Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Elders for many years. He loved serving his God in this capacity.

Dr. Jack was an avid supporter of Parklane Academy which he helped organize in 1970. He was a member of the school board for 10 years and served several years as president. Every year at graduation one student receives the Dr. Jack Nunnery Scholarship Award, an award that was instituted many years ago in his honor. He continued to support the school and attended all athletic events as long as his failing health permitted. In 1993 he was presented the Lay Directors Distinguished Service Award by the Mississippi Private School Association. Dr. Nunnery represented his community also as he served as president of the South Pike Chamber of Commerce in 1988.

Jack and his father, Bonnie Nunnery, operated Hillcrest Devon Cattle Farm for many years and helped organize the Dixie Devon Breeders Association for which he served as president.

In addition to his love of veterinary medicine he loved the outdoors. He remarked often that the woods were his second church. He was a hunter but most of all he loved calling wild turkeys and watching them strut in the early morning hours. He loved to travel and realized a lifelong dream by driving his motor home to Alaska twice, traveling through every province of Canada and every state of the United States.
