RITES HELD FOR RETIRED FARMER, DAIRY OWNER

Death took from the Minster community one of its most widely-known and respected men when Anton Meyer, aged 79, of Minster, died at 9:05 a.m. last Friday in Joint Township Memorial Hospital at St. Marys.

Mr. Meyer had been in failing health several years, and during the past eight months suffered periodical times of illness. He was hospitalized two weeks. Death was attributed to a complication of ailments.

A farmer many years, he started Meyer's Dairy, now operated by his sons, in 1929. In 1946 he and his wife built a home in Minster and he retired from farming and dairying.

At retirement he sold the farm and the dairy business to his sons. Norbert owns and operates the farm, and Paul and Wilfred own and operate the dairy.

Mr. Meyer was a member of St. Augustine's church and of the Holy Name and Orphan Societies of the church, and a member of the Knights of St. John. He was a charter member of the Father Andrew Kunkler council of Knights of Columbus. He served 27 years as a member of the Auglaize County fair board, representing Jackson Township, up to four years ago. He was a trustee of Jackson Township at one time, and served for a number of years on the board of the Jackson No. 2 School District.

A lifetime resident of this community, he was born at Egypt March 3, 1884. His parents were August and Catherine (Wiseman) Meyer. He and Catherine Schmiesing were married May 26, 1909, and she survives him. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1959.

Also surviving are eight children including three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Viola) Shenk and Mrs. Maurice (Evelyn) Schulte, both of Minster, and Mrs. Stanley (Adelle) Bernard of Piqua; and five sons, Clarence B. Meyer of Ft. Loramie, and Norbert, Arthur, Paul and Wilfred, all of Minster. There are 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. One grandchild is dead. He was the last of his family. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him death.

Solemn Requiem High Mass was sung in St. Augustine's Church at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Raymond Schultheis as celebrant. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Hogenkamp Funeral Home.
