Norwood News 12/24/1919
Norwood-Carlos Marteau, an employee of the Martin Pulp and Paper company, was drowned at the company's plant at Yaleville Sunday morning about 9 o'clock.
Art Martin, a member of the company, with Marteau and other men were at work clearing the head racks of anchor ice. Marteau's hands becoming cold he went into the mill to get warm. While he was away the other men had succeeded in clearing the rack and on his return he walked out onto a platform over the spillway of the headrace, apparently to watch the flow of ice. In stooping over he lost his balance and fell about eight feet into the icy water below the spillway. Search for the body was at once begun and it was found near the place where he fell in at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Mr. Marteau was 36 years of age and besides his wife he is survived by five children ranging in ages from 3 months to 8 years; one sister, Mrs. Millard Marteau, and two brothers, George of Yaleville, and Gilbert of Norfolk.
Mr. Marteau had been employed by the Martin company the past two and a half years, coming to the place from Reynoldston, Franklin County.
Funeral services were held yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Andrew's church in this village, Rev. J. H. Roche officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery.
Carlos was the son of John and Sophia Jock Martin.
