Jacob Preston Katzgrau, 77, passed away Saturday February 8th in St. Petersburg, Fl. Jacob grew up in Newark NJ, m. Became a resident of Boonton in 1962, moved to Spring Hill Fl. in 1998. While growing up in Newark he attended Barringer High School graduating in 1955, won the NJ State Teenage Driving Rodeo and represented the state in national event finishing second. He was a member of the Army National Guard. Jacob worked for NJ Bell in many positions through his long career starting in 1955 finally retiring as a Special Services Manager for ATT in 1989.
While a resident of Boonton Jay was very active in the towns Scouting movement serving as Cub Master of Pack 103 and Scoutmaster of Troop 1 BSA Boonton from 1973 to 1982 and as Committee Chairman for many years afterwards. He was also very active serving the local BSA Council as a trainer and assistant on many committees. He earned his Scouters Key, Wood Badge beads and Silver Beaver Awards for service to local scouting. He took great pride in being able to help many young men attain the rank of Eagle Scout and continued to mentor and support the Troop.
