Obituary for Alice Marie "Clark" Gothard


Alice Marie "Clark" Gothard, 91, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on February 19, 2014 at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was a very loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother who always put family first. She reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning, that laughter is life's sweetest creation.

Alice was born January 2, 1923 to the late Oscar Sampson and Mabel Mae "Houser" Clark of Patriot, Ohio. She and her husband lived in Mudsoc for part of their married life before purchasing a farm in Gallipolis, Ohio.

She is also preceded in death by her husband Herman Harold Gothard, Sr.; an infant daughter, Linda Lou Gothard; daughter Dorothy Mae "Gothard" Fraley and her husband Wallace Eugene; 2 sons Roger Lee Gothard and Herman Harold Gothard, Jr. along with his wife Nancy "Wamsley" Gothard; 1 great grandson Noah Fraley; 3 brothers Donald David Clark, David Eugene Clark, and Arthur Clark along with his wife Fern; 3 sisters Ethel Mae "Clark" Thievener, Bernice Clark and Gladys Ola "Clark" Mooney. Her very special friend Bert Edward McGuire preceded her in death in July of 2012.

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Mary Hazel Thompson, her husband Richard of Pataskala, Ohio, Eva Dawn Chapman, her husband Timothy of Columbus, Ohio, and Garnet Faye Chapman, her husband William of Gallipolis, Ohio; daughter-in-law Janet Lee "Callahan" Gothard of Newark, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister Doris Ruth Guinn, her husband Earl of Grove City, Ohio; and 1 brother Randall Clark, his wife Nancy of Dayton, Ohio. Special friends, Mike Hutchins; Gene and Helen McGuire and Chester and Judy McGuire.

Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Willis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walnut Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, prior to the funeral from 1-2 p.m.
