Carl attended school at Mullens, Lincoln and Central Grade School, and attended Beckley Junior High School and Woodrow Wilson High School. One of his first jobs was in a bakery. During World War II Carl was a part of the CCC Camp. He later became a machinist and retired from Long Airdox as a manager.
