Vinson's family moved from Egeria, West Virginia about the year 1895 to the Old Hatcher Homestead near Panther Knob in Summers County, West Virginia. Vinson attended school in Sand Knob.
Vinson married Ludie Ann Wills on July 5, 1911. When they married Vinson was employed at Thurmond by the Railway Express Agency. They lived there for several years and later moved to Mullins, West Virginia. A few years later they moved to Dover, Delaware. They stayed only a few weeks and moved back to Beckley around 1921. Vinson began working as a salesman and repairman for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Over the years he also worked selling Rawley Products, did construction on building the Raleigh County Courthouse and the Lewis Chevrolet buildings in Beckley, West Virginia and for the State Road in West Virginia. the family moved to Fitzpatrick, West Virginia in 1933 and lived there many years. Vinson enjoyed playing croquet and horseshoe with his grandchildren. He later built a home at Pleasant Hills, West Virginia and spent the rest of his life there. He retired at 65 years of age. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Pleasant Hills at age 73.
Vinson and Ludie were members of the Primitive Baptist Church.
