James F. “Sam” Derrick, 76, of Rocky Fork departed this life Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House.

Born June 26, 1929, at Derricks Creek, he was a son of the late James “Jim” and Nellie Asbury Derrick. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vernetta Miller; brothers, Don Michael “Bill” Derrick and Johnny Wilson Derrick; and father- and mother-in-law, Okey and Gladys Harbert.

Sam was retired from Columbia Gas where he was a master mechanic for 40 years. He was also a member of Woodward Woods Mission and was a Christian.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patsy Harbert Derrick; children and their spouses, Debby and Jim Reese, Peggy and Rick Brown, Robert and Nancy Derrick, Kim and Terry King and Christina and David Miles, all of Rocky Fork; grandchildren, Jaime, Derek and Dana Reese, Jessica and Kristopher Brown, Seth and Evan Derrick, Daniel, Shawn and Casey King and Sierra Miles; brothers and sisters, Ivy, Paul and Julia Derrick of Nitro and Lester Derrick and Maxine Rhodes, both of Sissonville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. Stanley Miller and the Rev. Bob Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Sam Derrick family cemetery, Rocky Fork
