COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Winward Dyer, 67, of Cookeville will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, from the chapel of Cookeville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3-9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Dyer died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at his home following an extended bout with cancer.
He was born March 29, 1937, in Jackson County to the late Robert L. and Lizzie Flatt Dyer. He was a farmer and owner of Dyer and Sisco Slaughter House for many years and a member of McBroom's Chapel Church of Christ.
His family includes his wife of 42 years, Peggy Sue Dyer; a son and daughterinlaw, Jerry and Penny Dyer; a daughter and soninlaw, Buffy and Scott Davison; four grandchildren, Dakota and Dillon Dyer and Harley and Havana Davison, all of Cookeville; four sisters and three brothersinlaw, Jewell and Clifford Flatt of Cookeville, Elsie and Ralph Young of Portland, Reba Kinnard of Cookeville and William and Joan Hufstedler of Cookeville; three brothers and sistersinlaw, Boyd and Katherine Dyer, Edgbert and Veldean Dyer and Hullon Dyer, all of Cookeville; his fatherinlaw, Dewey and wife Ruth Sisco of Cookeville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Dyer and Willard Dyer; one sister, Jessie Mae Dyer, and his motherinlaw, Jewell Sisco.
