CALVIN LAMAR ALDRIDGE

Calvin Lamar Aldridge, age 88, of Shreveport, LA. passed away February 5, 2014 after losing his fight with cancer. Visitation will be held on February 8, 2014 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, LA. with a service immediately following at 1:00. Officiating will be Tim Richardson of Baton Rouge, LA. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Lamar was a member of University Church of Christ in Shrevepoet, LA. since 2003 and a former member of Goodwood Boulevard Church of Christ and Capital City Church of Christ in Baton Rouge, LA.

Mr. Aldridge was born on February 25, 1925 at home in Melton, MS.(just south of Lormen, MS.) He spent most of his childhood in Wilson, LA. Lamar was a World War II Veteran. He joined the Navy in February, 1943 at age 17. He was a Sonaman Second Class aboard the Patrol Craft PC 1132 and toured the Pacific to Australia, Bora Bora and Fuji. He was honorably discharged in January, 1946. Lamar moved to Baton Rouge, LA. in 1948 where he met his future wife, Helen Louise Hall, and they were married June 8, 1951. Lamar retired from Exxon Chemical in Baton Rouge in 1987 as a Machinist First Class. Being a devout Christian, he taught Bible class and occasionally preached. He loved to sing, cook, travel, play golf and even spend time making golf clubs. Due to health reasons, he moved to Shreveport, LA. in 2003 to live next to his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bernard Bayliss. In June of 2011, Lamar moved in with Becky and Bernard until August, 2013 where he resided at the guest Care of Spring Lake Nursing Home in Shreveport, LA. After Lamar's death, he was brought home to be buried next to his beloved wife, Helen, whom he loved and missed very much.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Helen Louise Hall Aldridge, parents Ashley Allen "Jack" Aldridge and Nina Zelma Anders Aldridge; three brothers, Ashley Russ Aldridge, Henry Elmo Aldridge and Bernice Eugene Aldridge and wife Audrey Singleton Aldridge, and one sister, Lora Oleta Aldridge Bankston and her husband Odis Hendry Bankston, Jr.

Lamar is survived by his son David Lamar Aldridge and wife Lynn Aldridge of Baton Rouge, LA.; his daughter Rebecca (Becky) Louise Aldridge Bayliss and her husband George Bernard Bayliss of Shreveport, LA.; three grandsons, Michael David Aldridge, Allen Capell and Michael Capell and wife Ashley of Baton Rouge, LA.; nieces, Dianne Aldridge Goulas and husband Art of Baton Rouge; Cindy Aldridge Hamilton of Baker, LA.; Kay Bankston Kolb and husband Frank of Birmingham, Al.; Kathie Rider of Cottage Grove, WI.; Linda Rush Sissom and husband Jeff of Bartlett, TN.; Susan Rush Pou and husband Troy of Wylie, TX.; Tonya Hall Jones, Brenda Hall Crooks and husband Doug, Terri Hall Boston and husband Bill all of Stonewall, LA., nephews Ricky Rider, of Baton Rouge, LA;, Robert Lloyd Hall, Jr. and wife Beverly of Stonewall, LA., as well as a number of great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; and his dog and pal of 9 years, Foxy.

Pallbearers will be David L. Aldridge, Michael D. Aldridge, Allen Capell, Michael Cappell, Todd Nettles and Ben Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Bernard Bayliss, Art Goulas, Frank Kolb, Tommy Day, Mack Lovering and Ralph Perry.
