YORK Melvin C. Bond, 86, died at 9:33 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Leona M. (Rupp) Bond. Born October 23, 1927, in York, a son of the late J. Raymond and Anna Margaret (Fisher) Bond, he was a 1945 graduate of William Penn High School. He retired in 1992 from Trimmer Printing where he had worked since 1963. Prior to that he worked for Gregory Men's Wear. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the church choir for more than 60 years, and had been instrumental in the merger of Second Evangelical United Brethren Church and Wesley United Methodist resulting in the formation of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. While at Second EUB Church he has served as Sunday School Superintendent. A life and charter member of the Sertoma Club of York, where he had 54 years of perfect attendance, he had served as District Governor, as well as International President. His Masonic affiliations included Zeredatha Lodge, No. 451, Free and Accepted Masons, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Most recently he was the "heavenly voice" at Senior Commons, where he was in charge of singing happy birthday to each resident. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bond is survived by two sons, Gregory L. Bond and his wife, Debra, and Donald R. Bond and his partner, Kevin Woodring, all of York; one grandson, Matthew P. Bond; a brother, J. Richard Bond and his wife, Grace "Cookie" Bond of Denver, Colo.; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Paul W. Baughman, officiating. Viewing will be 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York, is in charge of arrangements.
