AUSTIN -- The funeral for Alice Tonetta Majerus will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Majerus, 84, of Austin, a former Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
Alice Tonetta Braaten was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Eagle Bend, Minn., and attended Corning, Minn., schools. On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Francis Majerus at St. Olaf Lutheran parsonage in Austin. She worked at Hormel for several years. During retirement she and her husband lived in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, returning to Austin 23 years ago. Mrs. Majerus was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, Naomi Circle and WELCA. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and needlework.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Pete) DeMars of Austin and Bonnie (Mrs. Dean) Osland of Woodbury, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ole Braaten of Moscow, Minn., Chester Braaten of Albert Lea and George Braaten of Austin; and five sisters, Hazel Cochran, Melda Williamson, Bernice (Mrs. Sal) Thompson and Netta (Mrs. Arley) Hutson, all of Austin, and Ann (Mrs. Floyd) Hemenway of Missoula, Mont. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
