Loran served in the Reserves for two years. On June 12, 1960, he married Janice Laursen; they were married for 30 years when she passed away. He worked for 17 years at Hy-Grade until it's closing. He later owned and operated his own body shop. He worked as a salesman at Fitzpatrick, Chevrolet, Buick and drove truck for Christiansen Brothers/Russell Ready Mix. He was a board member of Faith United Assembly of God. Loran enjoyed antique car restoration, cooking, model railroading, raising horses and dogs. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and learning many new things.
On September 4, 1993 he married Juanita Martin.
Preceding in death were his father, Frank Hartwig and his first wife, Janice Hartwig.
