She played basketball at Washburn High school, where she graduated in 1951. She worked at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, Tennessee before her marriage in 1954. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and sewing, gifting the work of her hands to her family and friends, even into her eightieth year of age.
She professed Faith in Christ at Beelers Chapel Methodist Church in Liberty Hill, and was a member there in her youth. She joined the Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Thorn Hill and was baptized on March 8, 1964, where she remained a member the rest of her life. She was dedicated to her faith and privileged to rejoice in the goodness of the Lord.
