Charlaine Bertha Westphal Cohen, 76, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in Carmichael, CA.
Charlaine was born June 24, 1929, in Ellis, to Bertha K and William F Westphal.
She attended school in Ellis through the 8th grade. After the death of her parents she moved to the Dalles, OR to live with her brother Val Westphal and wife Lu. She attended high school in the Dalles after which she relocated to the Los Angeles area where she worked for the California State Department of Education.
She married Les Cohen on July 3, 1951 in Los Angeles.
Survivors include heer husband; two daughters, Vicki Ortez, Fountain Valley, CA, and Juli Ayers and husband Dwayne, Corona, CA; four grandsons, two sisters, O'Detta Hawkins, Azuza, CA, and Avalon Moll, Hawthorn, CA; one brother Val Westphal, Castle Rock, WA; other relatives and many friends. Local relatives include a sister-in-law, Iona Westphal, Hays; and a cousin Catherine Bailey, Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Verne Westphal.
At Charlaine's request no services were held but a celebration of her life was held in late July at the estate of a close personal friend. Donations were made to UCD Transplant Center, 2315 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817.
