Wesley Capers Stripling Jr., 85, retired vice president of the W. C. Stripling Co., died Tuesday at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Methodist Church of Fort Worth, where he was a member. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Stripling was a retired vice president of the W. C. Stripling Co., which his father started in 1884 in Alvord. He worked for the department store chain for 54 years.

He started work when he was 6, as a "hopper" on the store's horse-drawn delivery wagon. He would hop off the wagon to deliver the company's products at customers' homes.

Stripling, a Fort Worth native, attended Culver Military Academy, Kemper Military Academy and the University of Texas at Austin, and he was a major in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Rivercrest Country Club, Fort Worth Club, Fort Worth Boat Club and the Steeplechase.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Frances Simmons Stripling of Fort Worth; two sons, Wesley C. Stripling III of Fort Worth and Jeffrey S. Stripling of Fayetteville, Ark.; one daughter, Marianne Stripling Self of Fort Worth; one sister, Pauline Stripling French of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
