Born Josephine Emelie Huebener

SISTER MARY ADELAIDE, a religious of the Sisters of Saint Francis. died Wednesday at St. James Hospital, Newark, New Jersey. A native of Louisville, Ky., Sister was the former Emelie Huebener, daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth Frerker Huebener, and a communicant of St. Anthony church. She entered the Franciscan Novitiate, Court St., in 1883, and made her religious profession in 1885.
Sister M. Adelaide taught at Assumption Academy for eight years and at Holy Trinity School for nine years. She also served as teacher in schools conducted by her order in Albany, Utica, and Riverside, New Jersey.
Having volunteered for service in Hawaii, Sister was transferred to Hilo, where she taught in St. Joseph's School for 12 years. For several years she was principal of St. Joseph's School and Superior of the convent connected therewith. After her return from Hawaii in 1934, Sister served as Superior and Superintendent of St. Joseph's Home, Beverly, New Jersey.
The remains of Sister M. Adelaide were brought to the Franciscan Motherhouse, Court St., today, and will repose in the Convent Chapel until tomorrow morning, when a solemn requiem Mass will be offered at 9 o'clock.
A nephew of the deceased, the Very Rev. Theodore Eickholtz, O.F.M., Conv., pastor of Our Lady of Consolation Shrine, Carey, Ohio, will be celebrant of the Mass. Burial will be in Assumption, Cemetery. - Syracuse Herald-Journal, Friday, July 8, 1955.
