Husband of Eliza Jones and Ann Enniss
Story from Fred Beach
I had believed Thomas was the illigitimate son of Elizabeth Meek, he was baptised in Weston under Penyard in 1808. But on seeing the detail here I went looking for the mother of Thomas, was there a Susannah Meek? And yes there was -
Susannah Meek baptised in Weston under Penyard 18th July 1784, the daughter of Joseph and Ann Meek. Thomas was illigitimate but he seems to have known his fathers name John Oakey.
I can't find the a baptism for Thomas, but believe he was the result of an affair when Susannah was 21 and John Oakey was 43, he may have been married? it looks like he was named so that the parish could collect money to care for Susannah and baby Thomas.
John Oakey was baptised 19th Dec 1764 in Hartbury near Gloucester, Hartbury is about 15 miles from Weston under Penyard. John was the son of William and Mary Oakey.
cheers Fred
