On June 20, 1980, he married Peggy Sue Adams.
He worked for the YMCA officiating games for youth.
He is preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Long; foster mother, Bernice Heafley; foster brothers, David Blackburn and Larry Heafley; and nephew, Joah Greene.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Long of Phillipsburg; two daughters, Samantha Long and Cindy Smothers and husband Jason, of Lebanon; his father, John Long Sr. of Lebanon; two sisters, Jeannie Dismang and husband Rick and Juanita Sperry of Conway; two brothers, Kenny Long and wife Melissa of Lebanon and Bob Butts of Springfield as well as other relative and many friends.
A memorial service for John Long Jr., was held from 1 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Washington Christian Church in Lebanon.
