Former Magnolia resident Rick Scheuer passed away due to a tragic motorcycle accident that occurred in the evening of July 4th in San Francisco. Rick was born on November 3, 1957. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1976 and from the University of Washington in 1987. One of Rick's early passions was swimming. He was on the swim team at QAHS, and spent numerous years as a lifeguard for the Seattle Parks Dept. He kept a
watchful eye over a variety of beaches in the area and taught swim lessons to many children at both the Queen Anne and Ballard pools. Rick continued swimming as a preferred form of exercise, swimming at the YMCA multiple times during the week. He was planning to travel to Seattle to attend a lifeguards' reunion July 28th and was anxious to reconnect with many friends from that fond part of his past.
The remainder of Rick's years in Seattle was spent working as a Senior
Administrative Assistant for ADP. In 2004 he decided to make a major life
change and moved to San Francisco. Over the course of the 8 years he lived
there, he worked for Flack+ Kurtz as a word processing coordinator, then for
Gensler as a Specifications Writer/Editor and most recently at Topflight
Specs as an Architectural Specifications Writer. The heartfelt sense of loss
by all who worked with or knew Rick professionally has been profound.
One of Rick's greatest talents was as a creative writer. He had been
encouraged by teachers early on, had joined a writers group while living in
Seattle, and fully planned on one day becoming a published writer of a
series of mystery novels. With the benefit of more years he definitely had
the ability to do so.
Rick found great joy in simple things: His barbeque, his motorcycle,
his music, a great book, connecting with friends in both San Francisco and
Seattle, his writing, his work, and his family. Rick had a kind heart. He
nurtured friendships and always offered a listening ear and different
perspective. His sudden silence will be deafening.
Rick leaves behind his mother, Carolyn Harris (Robert), his sister Randi
Mezich (Pete), his niece and nephew Whitney and Derek Mezich, many aunts,
uncles and cousins, his former wife and beloved friend, Nathalie Ascher,
and countless friends. A Memorial Service will be held on July 25 at 7:00pm
at Magnolia Lutheran Church, 2414 31st Ave. W., Seattle, WA. 98199
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA of greater
Seattle, 909 4th Ave., Seattle, WA. 98104

*Obit from the Queen Anne and Magnolia News*

Rick was in the church choir with me when we were children. He got many solos due to his wonderful, clear singing voice. He was a very sweet young man who grew into a very caring adult. I had not seen him in years but I feel a great loss.
