She was born in Kannapolis, N.C., February 13, 1923, to Walter Charles Bullard and Lizzie Mae Bentley Bullard.
Irene was a graduate of Bassett High School and Perry Business College and retired from DuPont after 37 years of service.
She was a member of Fort Trial Christian Church where she served as church secretary for 40 years and was also a member of Grasshoppers Golf Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Ramsey; three brothers, Grady, Earl and Glenn Bullard.
She is survived by a stepson, Billy Bird, Sr. of Bassett; one sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Bill Prillaman of Bassett; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Bullard of Fieldale; two step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the home of Opal and Bill Prillaman.
The funeral service will be held Monday, January 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Minister Lawrence Harris officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fort Trial Christian Church, 6368, Virginia Ave., Bassett, VA 24055.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Chaplin Jason Cline.
Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
