Alburtus was the son of Alexander and first wife, Martha

ALBERTUS CRONE died on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., at his home in Meriden. Bert Crone passed away after an illness of 9 days. He took typhoid malaria and being of a strong, robust constitution, nothing of a serious nature was anticipated by his parents, till Tuesday evening, at which time he suddenly grew worse. Everything was done that loving friends and kind hands could do, but he continued to grow worse until Wednesday when the destroying angel of death closed his eyelids forever, and he was at rest. Thursday, the day set for the funeral opened with a bright clear sky and the thermometer ran higher than for days before. The heat was remarkable. This made it quite difficult to keep the corpse longer and 2 p.m. was set for the funeral hour. At 1 p.m. the tolling of the M.E. bell announced the age of the deceased by 19 strokes. Rev. Simpson presiding elder of the M.E. Church of which the deceased was a member, was requested to conduct the last rites of the dead. By 2 o'clock, the church was filled and the choir was in its place. About 15 minutes later the Rev. Simpson walked slowly into the church, reading a suitable portion of Scripture, followed by the pall bearers with their heavy burden. After the casket had been placed in front of the pulpit and the elder had read the Scripture lesson, the choir sand "Rest" or "Asleep in Jesus,", Eternity." This was followed by an appropriate sermon directing the mind to the promises of the Bible and consoling the bereaved parents, sisters, and relatives. Prayer was again offered and the services were closed by singing "Brother is only Sleeping." The casket was not opened for the viewing of the remains on account of the extreme heat having caused mortification to set in so rapidly. The remains were at once taken to the cemetery, followed by nearly 200 relatives and friends.
In him this community has lost one of its best citizens and outstanding young men. He was a regular attendant upon religious duties. It was seldom he missed a church service. He refused to touch, taste or handle intoxicating beverages. That he was a living lesson to the young and a model temperance young man is a pleasant remembrance to fond parents. Our loss has undoubtedly been his gain and we, like him, should be ready to say "Thy will be done.

Bert Crone was born in Clinton County, Indiana April 14th, 1866, came to this state September 4, 1881, and at his death he was 19 years, 2 months and 15 days.
