Elsie Calloway Reece, 75, of Hudson passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at her home.
Born Oct. 25, 1938, in Avery County, Elsie was a daughter of the late Leo and Vinti Arnette Calloway. She was a beautician for many years and was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Lucas Reece; a great granddaughter, Rebecca Reece; a sister, Bea Kaylor; and two brothers, Wayburn Calloway and Hoyt Calloway.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Allen Reece of the Home; a daughter, Teresa Church and fiancé Jim Brown of Lenoir; a son, Reggie Reece of Hudson; two sisters, Glenda Carter and Pansy Keen; four brothers, Junior Calloway, Buck Calloway, Jim Calloway and Ronnie Calloway; and six grandchildren, Scarlet Glover, Chris Church, Dustin Church, Ethan Reece, Chase Reece and Caleb Reece. Elsie is also survived by numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Clyde Bumgarner and Pastor Bill Bentley officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
