Bernard is listed as Mitchell in 1935 on his marriage certificate. His parents' surname is Michels. I'm assuming he legally changed his name for some reason pre- 1935. He appears to be the only son who changed his name.

OBIT:

Bernard F. Mitchell, 67, 207 N. Sprague, died Sunday at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. He was born at Ellensburg September 11, 1907. He attended Lourdes Academy in Ellensburg and graduated from St. Martin's High School in Tacoma.

He lived at Helena, Mont., and worked for the Capital Laundry and Cleaners from 1932 to 1940. During that time he met Alice Gibbons and they were married in 1935. They moved to Forsyth, Mont. for a year, returned to Helena for another year, and in 1942 they moved to Renton where he worked for Boeing until 1945. They moved to Tacoma until 1947 when they returned to Ellensburg. Mitchell has operated the KE Cleaners here for the past 23 years.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight three times and the Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, Alice, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Bernadine) Robertson of Ephrata; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. May Graaff of Walla Walla.

Rosary services will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Requiem Mass will be Wednesday at 1 p.m., at St. Andrew. Father Seamus Kerr will officiate and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. K. J. Larimer, 209 East Capital or the St. Andrew Church Building Fund.
