She was born in March 1880 as Antje Tilstra in the small country village Schingen (in the Frisian language called Skingen), municipality Menaldumadeel, in the northwestern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, the sixth of nine children of baker Rinze Tilstra and Baukje Stellngwerf.

The family Tilstra emigrated in 1887 from Schingen, northwest Friesland, Netherlands to the USA.

Her brother Dirk (Dick) died in 1904 at the age of about 29 yeas, very probably in or near the Dutch truck farmers settlement South Holland, just south of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1910 Annie (30 y, born in the Netherlands), her father Renza Tilstra (62, Netherlands), her moher Bessie (58, Netherlands), her siblings Nicholas (32, Netherlands), Samuel (31, Netherlands), David (28, Netherlands), Ella (26, Netherlands) and Jennie (25, Netherlands) lived in Thornton [Township, very likely in or near South Holland, a Dutch truck farmers settlement, just south of Chicago], Cook County, Illinois. Her father was one of the early gardeners of South Holland.

Her brother Douwe (David) died in 1912 at the age of about 30 years and her father Rense Tilstra in 1916 at the age of about 68 years, bot very probably in or around South Holland, Cook County, Illinois.

In September 1918 the family Tilstra was living at Rural Road 1 in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois.

In the beginning of 1920 Anna (39), her mother Mrs. B Tilstra (68), her brother Nick 42) and her sister Ella (36) lived in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois.
Annie died later on in 1920 at the age of about 40 years.
