John Snoke was of German descent and a bishop in the Dunkard Church. He appears to have been a deeply religious and pious man. He is buried in the Snoke Cemetery/Graveyard next to his wife, Hannah Whistler Snoke, (located on the west side of Middle Road about halfway between Route 997 and Mountain Road, GPS N 40 degrees 12.88 and W 77 degrees 28.73) near the Mifflin Elementary School, Upper Mifflin Township, PA.

He was a native of Lykens Valley, Pennsylvania.

He married his wife, Hannah, on 29 November, 1808, in Lancaster. They had eight children, and moved to Mifflin Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
