John Claxton Long was the son of Camble Herman Long 1881 – 1960 and Flora E Moore 1883 – 1956, his sibling were: Vannie Long 1906 – 1975; Ruby Emmiliene Long 1909 – 1989; William Nicholas Bunn Long 1910 – 1973; Marie Long 1911 – 1982; Lincoln Dale Long 1913 – 1973; Louise Long 1914 – 1956; Mable Gladys Long 1916 – 2003; Carl Herman Long 1918 – 1921; Mary Ruth Long 1920 – 2002; Talmadge Taylor Long 1922 – 1966; Edith Long 1924; James Otis "Jimmy" Long 1925 – 1991 and Illa Jean Long 1929 – 2001.

On Dec. 26, 1925 John Claxton Long married Emma Lee Long. They had only 1 known son, Bobby Allen Long.

The 1940 census revealed John and Emma owned their home, valued at $1000.00 in Bulls Gap and he had completed 4 years of high school. He was a salesman for a Retail Grocery Store.

John's death certificate revealed that he promising future was a Farmer and a Teacher at the Veterinarian Vocational Agriculture Institute near Bulls Gap Tennessee. His life was interrupted by an Acute Heart Attack on Oct. 4, 1948. His body was taken to the Stewart's Funeral Home to be prepares for burial on October 6, 1948. A burial plot was selected for him at the McCullough Cemetery, Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
