In the passing of John Wood, which occurred at his home in Spring Valley, on Nov. 16th, in the eighty third year of his age. Spring Valley and surrounding district lost one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens and the United Church an earnest and devoted worker.
Mr. Wood was a Local Preacher, and for ten years had charge of a Mission in the Old Land before coming to Canada. Preaching three times a week, and that without a penny of remuneration, as he conducted a dairy farm to make a living for himself and family.
While at Spring Valley, Mr. Wood often took services for the Ministers of the Clive charge, and with very great acceptance with the people.
During recent years, Mr. Wood with S. J. Leader, conducted services at Jonesville where he found a group of people anxious to hear the Gospel, sympathetic and appreciative of his gifts and graces. These services he continued in spite of somewhat failing health up to three or four weeks ago. Indeed he was preparing an address for World's Temperance Sunday, but he was not to deliver this.
The funeral service was held at the Wood home on Friday, W. B. Leard, officiating.
Mrs. Wood, a companion and helper for forty-nine years, and the other members of the family have the sincere sympathy of the whole community, and a host of friends. But more than that, they have the memory of a life that must be an unfailing source of inspiration and comfort.
"Servant of God, Well Done."
