Born Apr. 1st, 1929 to parents Howard and Nina Luckett, Orchid Mae Luckett was the second child, but the first of three daughters born to the couple. Orchid Mae was immediately a delight, but as a baby was striken by polio, a disease which ravaged the United States prior to a nationwide vacination program. Being the recipient of the kindness of the Masons, Orchid Mae was treated for her affliction in San Francisco, then began a life long recovery which left her with a limp for the remainder of her life. Due to this limp, Orchid was cruelly teased by school children as she attended school, and was later treated with discrimination in many area's of her life. Facing these hurdles, Orchid Mae went on in life to become a Nurses aide, and later became a valued worker for Ma Bell, starting out as an operator, working up to a specialist's position within the telephone company. Orchid had a special talent that other's enjoyed. Orchid used her beautiful soprano voice to sing praises to the Lord above. Meeting her future husband Virgil E. Hunton Jr. (also listed in this database) at the Calvary Baptist Church of Clovis. The couple were soon married by the Senior Virgil E. Hunton,(listed in this database), immediately moving from Clovis, ministering to those in the Southern Baptist Churches in Irving Texas, Raton, New Mexico and finally returning to Clovis. The couple often would sing together as they preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music as the wife, and Minister of Music for the Highland Baptist Church in Clovis. As Orchid's love of her life, Virgil succombed of chronic heart disease in the prime of his life, Orchid went on to raise alone the couples two beautiful children, Carole Ann and David Hunton. More than 10 years after the death of her first love, Orchid met Jack Feeler, an oil line businessman based in Odessa Texas. Orchid married Jack, and soon after was afflicted with a brain tumor that would soon end her life. Orchid was not to stop her Christian walk in faith as she traveled to Korea, ministering to many, her faith in God above. Orchid passed away on October 12th, 1981 after her battle with cancer came to a courageous end. Many family and friends have fondly remembered Orchid for her love of Jesus, and her love of all of her family and friends.
