Was Killed by Buffalo Flyer
An Aged Man Loses His Life Up at Hyner.
William Lunger, of North Bend, Eighty Years Old, on account of a freight passing on the other track. Did not hear the passenger train approach in time to escape a terrible death on the rail.
Another fatal accident occurred at Hyner Friday afternoon, the victim being William Lunger, a resident of North Bend, who was 80 years of age.
Did not hear train.
The old gentleman was walking up the north bound P & E railroad track, while a New York Central freight train was coming east on the other track. Just then the Buffalo Flyer, west bound, came along, and as Mr. Lunger did not hear the approach of the train from behind on account of the noise made by the passing freight, he was struck by the rapidly moving train and knocked from the track quite a distance. When picked up he was dead.
Paid no heed to whistle.
The engineer blew the whistle, but the aged mans hearing was probably defective, for he paid no heed to the danger blasts, and the distance was too short to bring the train to a stop.
Coroner W. N. Armstrong of Clinton county, was notified of the accident, but as he received word too late to go to Hyner on the next train, he telephoned instructions to have a justice of the peace investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, and forward a report to him. The deceased is survived by two sons and a daughter (2 daughters?), all of North Bend.

PA Death Certificate lists him as Stephen Lunger, but son son Stephen died in July the same year. Chas. Lunger of North Bend was informant on his and son's death certificates.
