Rachel Muriel Dye was the daughter of Lee Roy Alexander Dye and Leah Olive Lynch of Ohio. Her family moved to Tennessee when her father came as an electrician with the new Chattanooga Power and Railroad Company. She married William Howard Byrd in Chattanooga March 23, 1933 and they had children Katherine Byrd, William Howard Byrd III, Richard Kenneth Byrd and Olive Jeaneatte Byrd. Her husband preceded her in death 1976 and they are buried together with her parents in Greenwood Cemetery.
