Glen Reed Ashby, age 67, passed away Thursday, April 17, 1997, at his home in Kaysville.
He was born on February 28, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of goodly parents, Glen and Emily Theresia Bohner Ashby. He married Marelda Lois Davis on November 1, 1950. They were later divorced. He married Cherill Lee Fitton Silver on January 1, 1995.
He attended school in Salt Lake City and Davis County, graduating from Davis High School in 1949. He played on the Davis High Basketball team that won the state championship in 1949. He was an Eagle Scout. he graduated from Weber College with a degree in accounting and pursued his career as a bank examiner for the Federal Government. His later years were spent in the construction field. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Marines.
Reed excelled in athletics, specialties being basketball, tennis, softball and golf. While he was in the Marines, he was a pitcher for the fastpitch softball team and took them to two world championships. He was a master builder and a hard worker all of his life, and his sense of humor was endless.
He was a member of the LDS Church and held various positions throughout his life, including being a teacher of the youth in the Kaysville 8th Ward and at the time of his death was serving as a counselor in the Presidency of the High Priest Group of the Kaysville 13th Ward.
Surviving are his wife of Kaysville; a son, Scott Kevin Ashby, Layton; four daughters, Denette (Gary) Madsen, Castledale; Kaye Lynn (Ron) Gunnell, Salt Lake City; Suzanne Tucker, West Jordan; Lisa Marie Ashby, Salt Lake City; two stepsons, Robert Scott and Daniel Lynn Silver, Salt Lake City; three stepdaughters, Christine Lee Silver, Salt Lake City; Rebecca Marie Silver, Bountiful; Cathryn Anne Silver, Kaysville; and 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Ralph E. Ashby, Centerville; David A. Ashby, Draper; Steven M. Ashby, Layton; and two sisters, Ruby Lever, West Jordan; and Joan A. Ford, Orem.
Reed was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph; one granddaughter, Emily Webb.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the Brookhaven Ward, 190 No. Country Lane, Kaysville/Fruit Hieghts area. Family and friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, and from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment Kaysville City Cemetery.
