Sarah Helen Rice died shortly after birth of heart defects. She was originally buried at Bethel Church Cemetery in Stone Mountain, GA near her paternal grandmother, Martha J Hinton Rice. When her mother died in 1958, the family moved her remains to Melwood Cemetery, where she now rests next to her parents Charlie Lee and Bessie A. Rice and brother Ralph Owen Rice. Though we never knew her, her older sister remembers her birth and relates that she was a beautiful baby with dark hair.

The original tombstone has been lost, but this charcoal rubbing shows the inscription on this small tombstone (a marble slab) that was chiseled painstakingly by hand with a screwdriver and hammer by her mother, Bessie A. Rice and was on her original grave at Bethel.
