He resided in Windsor County, Vermont and was in the Vermont National Guard prior to the war.

His Vermont National Guard unit was activated into full time federal service on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, from Windsor, Vermont. He was noted, at that time, as being employed in a Forestry occupation and also as Single, without dependents.

Carleton "Died Of Wounds" received in action during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
