He married (1) Margaret Houts on August 4, 1781 in York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania. They had 7 children - Ralph Lashells, Sophia (Lashells) Maxwell-Duncan, John Lashells, Anna (Lashells) Long, George Lashells, Jr., Jacob LaShell and Ida (Lashells) McEwen.
He married (2) Sarah Ann Moore on January 1, 1805 in Adams County, Pennsylvania. They had 8 children - Margaret Eliza (Lashells) Foster, Rachel Harriet Lashells, Mary Adaline (Lashells) Smith, Martha Agnew (Lashells) Truckenmiller, William Craig Lashells, James John Lashells, Robert Wallace Lashells and Richard Crain Lashells.
He served as a private in the Revolutionary War from 1776-1778 and owned a tavern outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where he was the first sheriff.
